Wading Bird
2020. Cast Aluminum, acrylic paint, wooden block.
I was reared in Michigan, and my childhood summers were spent near water, where my family of avid birdwatchers saw herons, cranes, loons, and more. My mother adores these birds, and I cannot see them without thinking of her. This modular unit construction was formed in wax and cast in aluminum; it is a monument to those summers and hours spent with loved ones, cutting paper and fabric for the crafts they taught me.
Momma’s Rose
2018. Copper flashing, approx. 20 gauge. Formed by hand. Approximately 5” at widest point.
When I was growing up, my mother kept a garden of tea roses and heritage roses. This garden produced magnificent, delicate blooms with beatific scents. Unfortunately, these blossoms did not last long. This copper echo is my attempt to pin down a moment in time.
Undergrad Capstone
2020. Mixed media.
This was my first installation, which dealt with themes of trauma, grief, and resilience. Please visit Installation overview for more information.
Textured Planar Model
2020. Cast Aluminum; 5 x 8”. Modeled in styrofoam and wax.
This was my first exploration of styrofoam sculpture, wax modeling, and aluminum casting. The variety of textures were achieved with hot tools, screw heads, and a nail to see how they would cast and how much cleanup would be necessary.
The textures were inspired by pen and ink illustration and animation from the 2000s.
